“These paper dolls were inspired by the rich cultural traditions of Polynesia. While creating this collection, I researched traditional clothing, historical photographs, museum references, and cultural resources from different Polynesian communities, including Aotearoa (New Zealand), Hawaiʻi, Samoa, Tonga, Tahiti, and other Pacific Islands. My goal was not to reproduce ceremonial clothing exactly, but to introduce children to the diversity of Polynesian cultures through everyday and traditional dress in a fun, creative, and approachable way. I hope this activity encourages children to explore different cultures, appreciate traditional craftsmanship, and spark conversations about the people and stories behind the clothing.”
